Glorifying God...
The ultimate purpose of all creation is to bring attention to God and to glorify Him. Campus Outreach Lexington exists so that He may receive continual praise, honor and glory from us as we find our joy in Him.
...on the campus...
The college campus is a strategic mission field. College students are at the crossroads of life, making long-term decisions and moving out to influence the world. This is an ideal time to challenge them to live according to God's word.
...by building laborers...
Building laborers takes many resources, but the returns on this investment are immeasurable. Our prayer is that students will graduate who are not only equipped to build their careers, but also the Kingdom of God.
...for the lost world.
The purpose of Campus Outreach Lexington is to reach the world for Christ by mobilizing laborers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world. Our vision is that trained graduates would provide leadership in every sphere of influence (the church, medicine, community, business, education, missions, etc.) at home and around the world.
God
God is one Being existing in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God is the Sovereign, the Creator and the Sustainer of all things. God is the source and end of all truth.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the eternal begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and of the Virgin Mary, truly God and truly Man. Through Christ's perfect life, death, resurrection and ascension, He accomplished a decisive victory over sin for His people and established His Kingdom among men. The Lord will return personally and visibly in glory and triumph to the earth for the consummation of this age and His Kingdom and to bring to pass the final judgment.
Man
Man was created in the image of God as a rational, moral and spiritual being. Man sinned in Adam and fell with him in his first transgression. Man's fall affected him spiritually, intellectually and physically leaving him in a state of complete depravity. He is restored as a gift only by the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit and the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. God is the initiator and completer of this work and is sovereign throughout both salvation and sanctification. Man's response to God's offer of salvation is repentance from sin and faith in the atoning work of Christ.
Word of God
The Scriptures are the written Word of God, inerrant in their original writings, the infallible authority by which He directs and governs all activities. Both the Old and New Testaments reveal God's covenant of grace and are therefore applicable to believers today.
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead, eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son, coming into the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to people. He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life, continually indwells the believer from the moment of spiritual birth. To believers He brings fullness of life, empowers them for godly living and equips them for service and witness to Christ.
Church
The Church is composed of all people, living and dead, who have been joined to Christ through placing their faith in Him alone. The visible church, in teaching the Scriptures, administering the Sacraments and exercising discipline to its members, is God's ordained vehicle for leading His body, the people of God, in worship of the Godhead and in fulfilling Christ's mission to make disciples of all nations. God instructs His people to assemble together regularly for worship, edification and encouragement.
Relationship with the Church
Campus Outreach also believes in a strong relationship with the church. Each regional ministry is under the authority and leadership of a local church body, which provides a crucial source of accountability, leadership and resources. Staff members and students of campus ministries in other cities and towns become involved in local churches. The partnering church for Campus Outreach Lexington is currently 2nd Presbyterian in Memphis TN.
Growth Strategy
Campus Outreach has found that the most effective way to grow big is by staying small. Campus Outreach is actually made up of 20 independent “franchises” throughout the world. Once a franchise grows large enough, it launches new staff members to a new campus in another location. From there, Campus Outreach seeks out a local church to “adopt” Campus Outreach as its college ministry. Once a church agrees and after a period of testing and transition, the new host church assumes all authority and oversight for that franchise. So in essence Campus Outreach is a collection of the 20 college ministries of individual churches which share a common vision and strategy but with no central headquarters or central authority.
Life-on-Life Relationships
Finally, we believe the best spiritual training takes place in the context of relationships. Rather than relying on a program or Bible-study curriculum, we emphasize the importance of life-on-life relationships -one individual sharing his life with another.
"Campus Outreach Memphis is consistently one of the most effective outreach ministries of Second Presbyterian Church. The CO staff are godly, servant-minded Christians, who really care for college students. Their rapid growth over the past ten years attests to their solid commitment and their knowledge of today's college student."
Sandy Wilson, Senior Minister
Second Presbyterian Church, Memphis, TN
“I love Campus Outreach. It is radically God-centered and radically in love with college students who need Christ. Like the apostle Paul, Campus Outreach doesn't shrink back from saying the whole counsel of God. But they say it with passion and love. This combination of doctrinal rigor, spiritual passion, and personal warmth makes me glad Campus Outreach is part of our church. It is a growing global movement that I support with joy. To see the Christ-exalting fruit that comes in the conversion and spiritual growth of students through the work of Campus Outreach is deeply satisfying.”
John Piper, Pastor for Preaching
Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, MN
“In all my years of involvement with campus ministries, I have never been impressed with one any more than Campus Outreach. The ministry exhibits a rare combination of strengths in evangelism, discipleship, and theology.”
Randy Pope, Senior Pastor
Perimeter Church, Atlanta, GA
"When it comes to sound christian discipleship training at the college level, I know of only a few ministries that can even compare with Campus Outreach. I've seen first hand the fruits of their labor and I am proud to be a supporter."
Danny Wuerffel, Heisman Trophy Winner
"Today's students are tomorrow's leaders. Students are reachable now, but they will be hard to reach tomorrow. I've worked with Campus Outreach for over 10 years, and God's hand is on their ministry. They know how to reach students and build truth into their lives for a lifetime of walking with Christ."
Paul Stanley, International Vice President
